En 1992 il est élu membre de la National Academy of Sciences aux États-Unis et de l'American Academy of Arts.

Tits a reçu de nombreuses distinctions telles que le prix Wolf, la médaille Georges Cantor, le Grand prix des sciences mathématiques et physiques et le prix Wettrem.

Hérault : trois morts et une blessée dans un accident de la route

Une femme de 27 ans, enceinte d'environ cinq semaines, et deux hommes âgés de 33 et 39 ans ont été tués dimanche matin dans un accident de la route au Pouget (30 kilomètres au nord de Montpellier), a-t-on appris auprès du groupement départemental de la gendarmerie de l'Hérault.

Vers 8h00, le véhicule a fait une embardée sur la droite sur la route départementale 32, avant de percuter un platane situé le long de la voie de circulation opposée et de finir sa course dans les vignes.
